Down Under – Drawings 1

Looking back at these images I see their obsessive, crazy ridiculousness even more clearly than I did when I made them. It was wonderful to make images that were so confronting. They were exhilarating and scary – perhaps something like the way that a free-diver jumps into space and caresses the wafer thin line between life and death. You age and become a child in the same moment.

As much as they are self-portraits, these pictures are psychological connections between being human and animal. They are anthropomorphic and totemic. They are about losing a home and looking for a home. They are a home, of sorts, that is mine.
