Landscape Notes

Painting is an engagement with memories and places. A recognition of some familiar face that the land shares, displays, presents.

The meeting of the land and sea – a continuous event – a gentle stroke, a violent theft.

When the sea breaches the land, and the land holds the sea, a complex dance occurs.

A peninsula has the potential to become an island. Perhaps the obverse is also true. Sometimes a strait, sometimes an isthmus. They constitute the flux of a relationship beyond measure.

Two headlands almost meet. The gap is a pivot or hinge.

A trough, a ridge. Convergence/divergence.

The weather is another problem.
